Just five years ago, the European Green Deal was touted as the continent’s most unifying mission. Today, it’s being quietly dismantled. Hard-right parties across Europe are challenging the economic logic and moral narrative of decarbonisation—and centrists are starting to echo them.

Europe’s climate politics have entered a new phase: less ambition, more accommodation. From Germany to Britain, even mainstream leaders are echoing right-wing arguments that Europe’s emissions are too small to justify unilateral burden.
